  In the approval record checked on 26 September 2026, semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) has different uses by product.

• Match the intended purpose.

  At that check, Ozempic’s approved uses included type 2 diabetes in adults, whereas Wegovy’s included weight management.

• Check for tablets or injections.

  By 26 September 2026, both brands had approved injection and tablet products.

In the STEP 1 study, adults without diabetes lost about 15% of body weight with semaglutide over 68 weeks, versus about 2% with a dummy injection.

There was no study drug in the dummy shot. The drug’s maker funded the study. People attended regular visits, with advice on their eating and activity habits alongside the injections.
